Your hair?

I have had long hair all my life (almost 50 years now :)

Wet hair-
Is more fragile.  There are a lot of good detanglers, Pantene makes a good spray on one, Aussie too. Apply and let sit a few minutes.
Start at the ends, and work up.  Use your fingers first, and gently untangle the knots without
pulling at them.  It gets easier with practice. If you use rinse out conditioner, you can only use it on the ends if your hair gets oily or it it bothers your scalp. Use a wide toothed comb, or pick with rounded teeth.  NEVER brush wet hair!!
Washing it gently helps prevent knots.  Work the lather down the ends gently -never scrubbing at the length, or putting on top of your head and rubbing it.
For really horrible knots, try jojoba oil and lots of patience.  I had one that took FOUR hours
to get out.  I did wet the hair, and used conditioner on it and just worked at the knot.
The center of the knot had to be cut out, but I did not really loose a lot of hair.  Ask for help for hard to reach knots.

Dry hair,
Be gentle.  You can use the detangler spray also, concentrate it on the knots.  You can also
spray it on your comb- I also wet my comb.  Don't brush your hair!  It is very damaging.
Work out any knots with your fingers first, then comb.  Be sure to comb all through your hair at least two times a day to prevent knots.  The hair at the nape of your neck is prone to tangles
due to being shorter.  Be sure to comb all through your hair every day.

Keep your hair braided and tied back when it is windy, or when riding bicycles,  mc's and doing sports or working.  I sleep with mine braided, it is more comfortable that way. A bit of frizz serum applied when hair is wet helps a lot to prevent, and may help remove a knot. There is a product Aussie used to make called "Slip".  It did not work for me.

Good luck.
