Does Getting Your Ears Pierced Hurt?

WOW, I read a lot of these before I had my ears pierced, and I'm going to say this right now, a few of these had me so scared. But it was for naught.
I went to Claire's and it was so painless, I was a little anxious but I took some deep breaths and remembered a youtube video of a little girl getting her ears pierced, IT TOTALLY DOESN'T HURT! If anything all I felt was a little nervous but then nothing...it was amazing! Now I have beautiful Daisey's and I love looking online at earrings! DON'T BE SCARED, DON'T LET ANYONE SCARE YOU! Master your mental state of mind and realize, it doesn't hurt, and picture all of the cool earrings you can wear! DEEP BREATHS, smile even if you don't feel like it because it does help! Stay calm, and stay beautiful! Inside and out!

I work at Claires Accessories so I pierce peoples ears pretty much every day when I work. It doesn't hurt at all, honestly. I hadn't had my ears pierced since I was 15-16 and I'm 20 now so I wanted to get a few extra ear piercings. I was so scared haha, even though I do it every day, my work mate was laughing her head off at me!!! I was only meant to get one piercing but it didn't hurt at all so I ended up getting three done in one day, during work! So if I can do it then stand up and wait on customers then it can't be that bad! Haha

It doesn't really "hurt", it's more like a sting. I agree with most:
1) Have a professional do it (back in the day I used ice cubes)
2) Make sure they sterilize everything (your ear, wear gloves, clean equipment, etc.)
3) If they don't provide the after care liquids, do buy them, they will come in handy and do prevent infection
4) Follow after care instructions to a tee! If you don't, you can get an infection...And That Hurts... Trust Me, I know!
5) They will probably insert a Stainless Steel Stud, don't argue with them about what you want, and don't try to remove it and put your own studs in... That's how I got my infection.
6) The sound of the gun is the most startling, you hear that, then feel the sting, and then it's all over.

I thought I was going to pass out when I heard the gun and I cried, not because it hurt, because I was scared. There's nothing to be scared of tho.

Think about this, if it hurt bad, do you think we'd really see all these kids walking around with pierced navels, lips, eyebrows, tongues, etc? I think the ear would probably hurt the least.

I had mine done just before my 11th birthday and now I'm 12 nearly 13 ive had mine infected a bit once and I admit I fainted but they only got infected becoz I kept playing with me earrings in the day but I only fainted becoz I'm squeamish haa haa  xxx but having them done didnt hurt at all I had mine done at clares and mine are fine all what happend is they sit you on a chair she clean your ears then they put dots on your ears were you want it then they put the earring you chose in a gun (I had ma ear lobe done at the same time with two guns) and all they do is clik it I didnt even know it had gone in I just herd a clik and that was it ma mum was next to me and she had to tell me it was in and I didnt believe her they then had to show me becz I thought it wasnt in AND I'm NOT JUST SAYING THAT I MEAN IT but it is different for everyone becz I girl bout 4 went and had it done and she cried I think it was the noise that scared her though if you just pinch your ear a bit with your nails thats about the maximum of the pain it does get harder than that and the pain only lasts for about 10secs or less mine lasted for 0secs because I didnt feel anything my advice is HAV IT DONE its worth it becz mine look gawjuss now I don't regret it at all!!!! I just got mine done at Icings on Saturday, and they honestly didn't hurt. I was so nervous! I almost cried. However, they said I, 2, 3, and I braced myself for pain, but was astonished when I felt nothing. It's honestly the easiest thing. I didn't even feel a pinch. They're just pretty sore after. But it's not hard & you feel great having them done :)

I think I might get mine done soon. I can't wait!!! My advice: Take your best friend especially if she has her ears pierced. Mine has hers twice. If you go to claire's they use a gun. If you go on youtube and find videos of people getting their ears pierced, they don't even flinch so it must not hurt that much. Good Luck!

I got my ears pierced only this afternoon..I have planned to get my ears pierced for weeks and when the time to get my piercings came, my hands were so cold and I was so scared to death.. Haha even though I already have one piercing on each ear, I really didnt remember how it felt because I got them when I was only a few months old haha..when I saw the gun I was so freaked out and screamed..haha when the lady pulled the "trigger" of the gun, I was like "what the heck? That was it? That was all I got scared for?" hahaha it didnt hurt at all..probably 0.5 out or ten..planning to get the cartilage part of my ears pierced soon..now that is what I'm scared of

I never got my ears pierced and I am really scared my mom said it hurts a lot but like I don't think it's that bad I mean I'm super scared and all but I'll live I mean really its just a needle. You get them all the time I think the most scary part is probably the gun it looks scary and sounds scary so people think it's scary but think about it like this if you don't think about what is going on like you can day dream about a guy or something it won't hurt it will be like ... Pierce my ears already and  they will be like I did and you will be like cool that's what that pinch was lolz so think happy thoughts...Good Luck!

Mine didn't hurt that much when I got mine done, but they were numb because my ears were frozen from the ice cubes that were applied to them so the needle and thread could go through. Other than that some people say it does, and others say not that much. So, it depends on your personal pain tolerance level. Hope this helps, good luck to you with them.

Getting your ears priced does hurt a little more in some places on the ear than others. I found the ear lobes to be pretty much painless, they just get a little hot, and hurt if you catch them, like in your hair. However, more gristly bits hurt slightly more but not much.

When they pierce your ears, you can't feel it cause it goes by so fast
all they do is wipe your ear put the earring you want inside the thing then they hold it to your ear.goes right in then they just put the back in, I had three holes, but I took them out and let my holes heal cause I didnt want them anymore!! But it don't hurt at all. When you hear it you might jump. I did the first time..

It doesn't hurt if you are totally relaxed. I got mine pierced two days ago and there was no subsequent pain (it didn't even hurt a second after I got them pierced). If you pinch the skin between your thumb and index finger really hard, that's what it felt like for me, but only for a millisecond. I even smiled after!

I got mine done today at Claire's. I am only 10, and I didn't cry. My 7year old sister didn't even cry. Feels great getting them done. My dad said they pierced them with a gun, and he didn't mention piercing, so I was scared. But when I got them they didn't even hurt, well a little, not much. From 1-10, maybe It would be like a 3 or something.

Well,it hurt for me just for the first fifteen minutes. And then it stops! Just be sure to put on the RUBBING  ALCOHOL twice a day for 6 weeks! But before making a choice were to get your ears pierced be sure to go and inspect the place. Does it look clean? Do these people look like professionals? Do all you can do to not have you ears get infected! :)

Nope, not at all. I just got it at Claire's, and I didn't even hear the gun!!! It just feels like a pinch, but get it done at professionals like Sweet and Sassy or Claire's. Once you get your ears pierced it hurts for, like, 3 secs, but you get to walk away with really cute earrings! Oh, and follow the rules. Don't take them out for 6-8 weeks, and cleanse them with rubbing alcohol 3 times a day.

At the end of the ear isn't soar at all.I got mine done a few months ago and it wasn't soar at all.The top and other places on the ear may hurt.My cousins swollen and it wasn't pretty.The end isn't a problem at all.

No, it so doesn't hurt, it only stings for a second but after that you just laugh at yourself for being so scared, so nutting to worry about. X D have a great day

All it is is a quick sharp pinch I got them done three weeks ago.after it feels like its throbbing but not painfully.

Getting your ear loops pierced doesnt hurt, its just like a little pinch. When I first got my piercing, I cried because of the noise, I didnt find it hurt. Trust I have have had my belly pierced - didnt hurt, my ears done 1 on one ear, and 4 on the other, none of it hurts. Pain doesnt last ages, just like 1 minute. Just make sure you take good care. You don't want it getting infected. X

I just got my ears pierced for the second time 2 days ago, and it didn't hurt at all. I thought it would before I got it done because I couldn't remember what it felt like since I got mine pierced for the first time 8 years ago when I was in 5th grade, but when it happened, it didn't hurt. I mean I felt a sting at first, but then after that the pain subsided. The only time it will hurt is if you brush over your ear when it is newly pierced, so be careful! But it doesn't hurt at all, it's just a pinch!!!

No, I have my lobe pierced twice on each ear, neither of them hurt at all. The piercer was very good, and made me feel comfortable. In 2 seconds it was over, just a quick pinch. It stings after, but you get used to it so you can't really tell that it's stinging.

Before you get them pierced if you want bring ice or ask for ice at the piercing shop and put a piece of ice in the front and back of the ear and let it sit till it is sorta stingy then tell them to pierce it..:-) it works

Last year for my birthday, I got my ears pierced and they didn't hurt at all. After 7 weeks I took one out to clean it properly and after about an hour of cleaning then letting it dry I tried to put them back in. One wnet in but the other I couldn't het back in. So for I while I only had one ear pierced. Then today I went and got my rea pierced again. I have to say it hurt a bit more then the first time but it wasn't that bad. My sister also got her ears pierced at the same time as me and she made me go first. When she had hers done she cried. She is only 10. I have to say that in general it doesn't hurt that much but its different for different people.

Well I'm getting mine tomaro but actually it only stings for bout 10 minutes or even less! Before you know it, its sooo over with! And after 4-6 weeks you can wear awesome jelwery to match yourrrr outfitsss!!!!! Isn't that awesome?! I can't wait for mine and my mom told me its a pinch and thats it! I really depends on the person. I don't think it hurt much, but it depends on your pain thresh hold.

It does not  hurt I have a trusted mom and she said it does not hurt.and she told me when I was little she said that when I got my ears pierced she said I did not cry so you there *-*

I've read all the answers on yahoo answer, blurtit, and every other website I could find almost all said NO. I'm having mine done in a couple of hours. Don't think I'm a bragger but on a scale of 1 to 10 on the fear level I'm on 2. SO DON'T FREAK.

It Barely hurts, I was 12 when I got mine. I don really mind needles but an ear piercing feels like a pinch and only last for a few seconds. The only scary part is the sound of the gun, it is a loud click.

When I got them done I felt a pinch like someone pinched my ear but after it stung a little bit. It hurt less then a shot and less then a bee sting. You will be fine! Have fun!

I'm getting my ears pierced this summer.  I don't think it will hurt because I took a role of the people 7 say it does hurt, 6 say it depends and 27 say it doesn't hurt!  So I'm going with it doesn't!

It should only hurt when it is pierced.  Then is might be sensitive, but clean daily with alcohol and twist ring when cleaning.  When it starts to itch, you know you are healing. Change after 6-8 weeks.

No, it doesnt hurt, its more of a shock. Make sure you go to get yours pierced at a good place, because they didnt do mine probably and it REALLY hurt. But I got mine pierced again a bit higher and I didnt feel a thing. :)

I was going to get the top of my ear, through the cartilage pierced yesterday, but the minute I saw the gun I totally freaked out and told them I didnt want to get it done. Now I want to go back and get it done, but I am unbelievably nervous about getting it done. My best friend said getting it pierced isn't sore, but after is. I have my ear lobes pierced already, but I'm only 12 and I got them done when I was 5 so I don't remember the pain. I would like to get my nose pierced too when I'm older, but I have a very low pain tolerance, and if I can't get the top of my ear pierced I don't now how I am going to get my nose pierced! Please can someone tell me how sore it is, and be honest because I'm really really nervous. Oh, and what are the chances of my cartilage shattering?

And I'm using magnetic earrings for my 2nd hole but I'm getting mine done soon and the magnet kinda hurts-I feel pressure...is that the way your ear will hurt if you get your ears pierced...I already have my first hole done...

I got my ears pierced 3 weeks ago, and mine have been itching and only one of them hurts right now. It looks like one of them have more space than the other. Then again, I missed 12 cleanings. Clean them twice each day and after taking a shower/bath, swimming, or getting anything inside your ears that shouldn't. If you need any more help, just read the back of your ear cleaning! (:

Everytime I go to the mall and walk by claire's my mom always asks. She says that she'll take me when ever I feel ready. So far the answers always been no. After reading these I kinda see that it doesn't really hurt if you are calm, or expect GREAT pain. So for all that are getting them peirced, be calm! I think that's what works, or expect the worse pain you can think of. As for me, next time we go to the mall, I'm going to get them peirced! I'll try to be calm! : )

Well for about 15 minutes but thats all. I got my first ones when I was 12 months and my second just Friday so it feels akward because you hear click and there is an earing in your ear. So it is a wierd feeling but it is totally worth it.

For everyone its different but mine were really painful. It felt like a really sharp pain and then a bad ache for a few days. I had them done with a gun if that makes a difference.

No not if it is in the lobe of the ear.... The cartilage hurts a lot though, your ear lobe is nothing but fat... I have my ear pierced it really does not hurt.

To say whether or not it hurts depends upon your pain threshold. I agree the noise is probably the most disturbing thing about it.

No, not at all. It actually feels like someone is lightly pinching you. It only hurts when you think too hard on the thing that is about to shoot into your ear. So don't worry. No pain there.

When they did mine the actual piercing didn't hurt at all, but the stuff they put on my ears before they pierced them (I think it was like an antiseptic) stung.

It just feels like a pinch. It depeneds on the person though. Hope this helped!!!

Not at all. It stings for like a second, and then you feel some pressure on your ear. Which doesn't hurt for me. I've gotten it done lk 3 times...it's definetly worth it!!! :D

When you get  your ears piersed it  only hurts for  a cuple of  seconds and  then the pain goes away

If done correctly, getting the ears pierced may not be painful. When I was a teenager, before the pierced ear guns came out, we used two cubes of ice, applied it to the ear lobes until it was numb, then the person doing the piercing stuck a sewing needle in it. Both my first ear piercings were done this way. My third ear piercing was done this way. Then subsequently on left ear, two holes were pierced with the ear gun. The ear gun is painless, just a initial tiny, sting. If you are going to use the ear gun, make sure that all of the instruments are clean or sterilized, the person sterilizes your ear and he or she is wearing gloves. All together I have 5 holes. Taking care of the ears are essential after the piercings.

I guess I am a baby, I thought it hurt. It stung pretty badly. And it is sore for like ten days later maybe more, but the amazing thing is, once they are pierced and healed, all of a sudden, there is no pain at all! I had my ears pierced three times because I kept letting them close up due to the pain, but now that I am an adult, I finally made it through the entire process and I am very happy.
But, yes, it hurts.... You should put ice on your ears all the way to the place so they are pretty numb, that is what I did for my daughters.

I was absolutely terrified before I had mine done (one in each ear lobe). I had butterflies in my stomach and all. The piercer was talking to me to help take my mind of it, but I was too afraid to speak. The actual piercing part was awful. Most people say that it doesn't hurt, but not for me. Mine hurt like hell. I think it was mainly because she used a gun, or the fact that I was horrified, which made it worse. Either way, it hurt a lot. The pain carried on for about 2 or 3 hours, and then it settled down. If a hair catches the post then it hurts, but otherwise you don't really notice the pain.

I have two sets of piercings in my earlobes. I have two upper ear cartilage piercings. (also belly ring and eyebrow ring)..... The only problems I have ever had was with one of the upper ear cartilage piercings, but I think I was allergic to the metal. Ear piercings MAY hurt, when they get infected.

I just got mine pierced today and it does hurt. I went to claire's and at first it starts off hurting a little then it starts hurting more but it only hurts for about 10 seconds. It hurts less than a shot and feels a little like a bee sting. After the hurting it just stings a little tiny bit for about 5 to 30 min. Then it should stop hurting and stinging and the pain will be all over. But all in all, it hurts for a few seconds then your fine! :)

My friend (who is younger then me) saids it didn't hurt a single bit, actually, she thought they didn't even do it yet. Getting your ears pierced in your cartalidge hurts worse the getting your earlobes pierced. Getting your earlobe stings for like one second. Then it doesn't hurt anymore. Make sure you get your ears pierced by a PRO! Do not trust anyone who offers. Make sure you buy ear care products that help treat your piecing and prevent infection because THAT does hurt. Trust me, I've been there. Oh, and some people are allergic to certain strengths of metal- karrots (I mean like a 50 karrot gold earring.) It just depends on who you are. So if you do get an infection when you are using the ear care product right, you might be allergic to that particular metal. But don't worry, that doesn't happen to everyone!

My older Sister she was 14 when she got it, she was sooo scared and she is scared and crys a lot!   The lady did it and she told me and my mom, "When are they going to do it?"  She didn't even cry!     She said It was awesome!

I'm getting mine done today...you might want to get it done professionally. Don't go with the piercing gun. Those are very bad for your ears, just google "piercing guns bad" and you will get info on why its bad for you.

it is a bit red a bit though and maybe swollen but you have to wash them!

You may have a little pain while the ears are being pierced, but the pain usually leaves right away. Take care.

If you mean just your normal earlobe at the bottom of your ear NO ! It does sting for a second and I was about to cry but then the pain went completely and I was just left with a very nice looking earring !

Well, I am freaking out about getting my ears pierced! I am soooo scared! I don't want to until my sweet 16 but my best friends are making me. So, wish me luck! Grrrrr.....

It will hurt once you get it perced for a lil whyle but after about a week you won't even feel it.

I'm mot sure if I want to get my ears pierced or not because I really anything like a needle!I freak out just getting a flu jab!

I got my ears pierced today at claire's and it hurt so much that I got light headed and I fainted because it hurt so bad. It is like getting a shot but twice and it isn't in your arm. And that day me and my mom were planning to see a movie but I didn't feel like it. IMAGINE THAT? But after 10 Minuets I forgot I even had earrings so I went to go see the movie. And now I feel great. The only thing that bothers me is I can't lay my chin in my hands, I have to wash my hands before I touch my ears, and clean them and twist them which is really hard. But if I had to rate it from a scale of one and ten. I would give it a five. Don't listen to people that say you don't feel a thing. I took the info to be true, stupidly, and found out the hard way.

It also depends where and how reputable the place is that you r having it done. You can get a bad infection from not using clean tools. With that said, its only a slight pinch.  But like we all said it 's your pain threshold. Also don't forget the cleaning everyday and the turning so they don't close around your "new14 karat gold earrings" good luck!

I'm 13 and I've wanted to get my ears pierced for a long time but every time I walk into the store I start freaking out....My mom told me that the gun thingy makes a loud noise so thats part of the reason I'm scared.....I'm also afraid that it will hurt....Should I be?

I got mine done at  Clairs. I had to have one of mine Clairs because it got infected actually embedded. So I got mine done again and it hurts but just like a really bad pinch. It doesn't last that long either probably half of a second. Once you get out in the air it feels so much better. So I wouldn't be scared.:-)

I don't know ! I want to get two more in my left and right ear. I already have one in both but I want two more . One in the top inside of my ear and one above my first one .

Maybe sure and use the treatment advised by the piercer or you'll get a bad infection and that will hurt
