Getting your lip, or any part of your body pierced does hurt. The amount of pain that people feel when getting their lip pierced depends on the pain threshold of the person in question. This is the same for any piercing, or for tattoos. Another element that should be taken into account when having a piercing is the mood you are in. When having a piercing of any kind it is important that you are comfortable with the surroundings you are in. Make sure that the person doing the procedure is professional, and the area in which they are performing the procedure is clean. The piercer will always wear gloves, and carefully examine the area that is being pierced. If they feel that the area is suitable for piercing then it will be thoroughly cleaned prior to piercing. The area to be pierced will then be marked and the correct tools to carry out the piercing will be prepared. These tools should always be sterile and they should be opened in front of you. You will now be ready to be pierced, and the piercer will check to make sure that you definitely want to go through with the procedure. The piercing will now take place and in the case of a lip is a reasonably quick procedure. Other areas of the body can take longer. The rule of thumb with piercing is that the more sensitive the area of the body is, the more it will hurt when pierced. The piercing will be cleaned and the piercer will make sure that you are familiar with the aftercare that is required to be administered to the surrounding area. The piercing can take a few months to completely heal; in the case of a lip piercing the time period is approximately 2 months.
I'm probably the biggest crybaby EVER when it comes to pain. I felt sick all day before I went to get my lip pierced and let me tell you... It doesn't hurt at all.
I was speechless afterward because I'd been waiting to cry or feel a pinch at least... It was over in a half a second. No problems.
The only slightly annoying part was the week afterward because my lip was a little swollen and the area felt a little irritated... Itchy... Because it was healing.
But yeah, no problems here. It doesn't hurt at all.

Yes has the needle is entering and exiting. It's going to feel weird when the jewelry is in but thats because the skin isn't used to a metal this in it. It's going to be sore, and a white discharge is normal, it's a sign of good healing, but if it's a yellow green type then that could very well be an infection. It'll be sore when you talk, eat, or do anything that involves the area. DON'T touch it or mess with it for a while. Diluted mouth wash, or peroxide will help ward off infection. For the teens ask your parents! I didn't and my moms going to kill me in about an hour. Clean it and if it gets infected DON'T take it out!! If you do you'll lock the infection in your body and get worse consequences than if you left it in.
Right I got mine done today , I'm 16 and it does not hurt at all I didnt even know they pushed it in , all I saw was my friends face drop n I was trying to say is it in :O but it was mumbled coz I had the needle still in , they then pall it back out with the stud in end of the needle that part you can feel a little but it don't hurt it just tingles then once its done all you can think of its guna be annoying you feel no pain what so ever :) Kirstie :) x
I got my lip done yesterday, It only hurts for a second when they put the needle through and when they put the ring/stud in. The pain is the same pain you feel when you get a needle in your arm when having a blood test or giving blood. Within 10 seconds (2 seconds of it being pain) its all over. You just need to be really careful when looking after it. I've used mouth wash 4 times already and used antiseptic spray on the outside and it still bled a little and swelled up. These are all normal symptoms though.
I had mine done 3 days ago, it depends on how you handle pain, before I had mine done I asked everyone I knew who had it, they all told me that it was a slight pinch/sting and it was over with, some even said that they didnt feel it, so the next day I went into piercing studio and got my lip pierced and if I'm honest the pain was worse than I expected it to be, so it really depends on your pain threshold. Even though it did hurt, it was only when the needle was going through which lasted a couple of seconds, after that it was only slightly tender, if you really want it done that bad its worth doing, I love mine =)
Hey, No it doesnt hurt (:. I got it done a few week's ago, all it feels like is a tight pinch, for like 4-5 seconds thats it, I was really scared when I went in, but theres nothing to worry about :D, I want snake bits, I don't think id be getting it done twice if it hurt :).

I got my lip pierced two days ago, and honestly when you get the actual piercing there is like a split second of pain - which is honestly no soarer than biting your lip. Then afterwards my piercing didn't hurt at all - just be careful when you are eating, talking etc. As it may get caught in your tooth depending on the piercing. Honestly, it really dosen't hurt and I am a baby when it comes to pain, haha. Good luck!
I had my bottom lip done about 10 years ago. It was my first piercing apart from my ears and I was terrified. They mark the spot to check you like it, then hold your lip out with a clamp and then push the needle through. It stung for a second, but there was more pressure than pain because they clamp it so tightly. It will be quite swollen for a few days, and you will get quite a lot of scummy stuff while it's healing. Thats fine as long as it is clean. It heals quite quickly because of the saliva in your mouth, but can feel quite unpleasant for a while.
I would have it done without freeze spray as this can actually harden the flesh and make the needle more difficult to get through. I had that experience with my navel piercing and it was hellish!
Also, I had a ring put in for healing rather than a stud as it was easier to keep clean.
I got my belly button pierced yesterday at northern lights, ask for mark it was absolutely nothing haha if I can do it TRUST ME you can I was literally SHAKING and my hands were clammy but once I got in there I held my friends hand and he was like breath out and I felt like a 1 to maybe 2 seconds top skin pinch .. No not even a pinch it was like little bee sting. I was laughing afterwards and he said it was cute how nervous I was about a bee sting. But anyways yeah don't worry about it at all... If you can get a needle at the doctors than this will be a breeze.my ears probably hurt worse!
Well I got my lip pierced over a year ago and I adore it. When I got my bottom lip pierced on the right side all I felt was the sting of the cold needle go threw, other then that it didn't hurt. Of course it depends on who does it for you and where you get it done. If you truly want to get this piercing done make sure you know that if you aren't carefull (if you have a stud or labret in your bottom lip) your stud could get stuck on your tooth say if your eating, if you bite down hard enough it might chip your tooth. Other than that theres really nothing else to worry about. Good luck with your piercing.:)))
It's different for everyone. To me it didn't hurt to get it done, but a few minutes later it burned. If you are afraid of it hurting take some Tylenol, or something before and a while after to keep swelling down and to keep the pain from being really bad.
I've had my bottom left of my lip pierced for just over a year now, I didnt have it froze and it didnt hurt at all! I have a rubbish pain tolerence as well. Tbh having the clamp put on it hurt more than the piercing itself, to me it just felt like a little pinch ( my ears hurt even more than my lip and my ears didnt hurt me at all) but like everybody else has said on here, everybodys pain tolerence is different. And @Brittssssssssss - freezing piercings isn't illegal, just there not aloud to freeze your tongue anymore incase you bite your tongue or swollow your tongue bar without realising.
I have my orbital pierced ( the top cartlige of your ear ) and my tragus, ( middle bit of your ear ) My top lip and belly, and the orbital was the MOST painfullest piercing I have! Ive had it don't for a while and it still hurts, but no I don't recon your lip hurts, only if you get it court and it rips. So yeah :) xo

I've got my lip pierced. It did hurt, like any other piercing, but not much, it was bearable. Often the pain only lasts as the needle goes in and after that you just get a weird feeling, not pain, just trying to get used to the piercing. Hope this helps
I agree with the majority of everyone. Everybody has different pain tolerances. I have had two lip piercings and honestly I don't think it hurt at all. It was just like a little sting and that was it. Now, the next day after each piercing my lip had gotten really swollen and my ring was really small and started to pull the ring because of the swelling... That hurt real bad, but just put some ice on it and make the swelling go down and you will be fine.
I'm getting snakebites tomorrow...and I am super nervous. I have a friend that said it doesn't hurt..and from what I read.. .only a few people find it hurts. I'm 19..and have a kid..I'm sure a needle in your lip doesn't hurt like a needle in your spine. Lol
When you are getting your lip pierced, you expect it to be a lot of pain, its NOT. Its just like a tiny little pinch. You barely feel it. The healing process though is a different story. Your lip will swell and be very sore.... And it will get in the way of eating.
I pierced my lip a month ago I didnt hurt much just like a pinch after I doesnt hurt just make sure yo keep your mouth clean and rinse it with mouth wash every time you brush your teeth a bit of advice I recently changed the stud to a hoop and it started hurting again so you might want to wait the 2 months to heal and change
Every piercing hurts. You are piercing through your flesh, it creates a wound. It's normal to hurt. It just depends on the place on the body and the person if it hurts very much or just a little. Of course it's a lot of the time the same for everybody that, let's say, a tongue piercing doesn't hurt that much and, let's say, a nipple piercing hurts a lot. So, with that in mind, a lip piercing doesn't hurt that much, it's in the middle of the "painscale". But it could always be a lot more painful for you. You'll never know until you try. But just remember, the pain of piercing is just a few seconds. It's more important if it stays painful and sore. That could be a long or short time, that's more important to me. I'll survive the few seconds of piercing.
I really want a lip piercing when I'm old enough to get one,plus I got a cartlige piercing and just a regular piercing and I keep thinking it'll hurt because its a needle going thru your flesh,but then again I did get my cartlige pierced too but I'm still worried it'll hurt lol

I've had four needles in my mouth from the dentist... Would the piercing be worse than that? Ive had my belly done and ive had needles before but I'm abit scared and I always talk when I get a piercing.. Don't know why it calms me but it does.. How much pain is there afterwards?
Its probly the eaisest and most scarest thing thats ever happened. If you shake while they are trying to pierce..it aint a good idea..so my idea here is to stay calm while they are piercing it..hahaha..it didnt hurt but I moved and they hit a sensivite spot..so just stay calm and bring a stress ball if your that worried...
Nah too be honest it dosent but thats if the person who pirces it num your lip first. I got mine done saturday and the guy put sumtin in my mouth tht numed my lip dhen stuck dah needle but it will hurt after a day or two. You shouldnty play with it or it will get worst.make sure they sterilize dah needle and make you rinse with mouthwashh.-

It does NOT hurt, but they make you take them off at work, which is stupid because its not like a lip ring is going to distract you or make you any less capable of doing the job right
I've had my lip pierced 3 times it only hurts when its entering and exiting the skin it feels swollen afterwards and may have a little bleeding, it sort of feels like you've got a fat lip afterwards lol.

I didn't feel it at all. It only hurt the next day or two when it was all swollen. (I have a vertical labret) Usually if you think it is going to hurt you get a bunch of adrenaline at the last second and it ends up not hurting...I think the worst part of being pierced is when they put the jewelery in, and that's not very painful at all either.
I've been wanting to get my lip pierced for a long time now & finally feel ready, I've already got my ears pierced (7 in one ear) and that was nothing! However I'm still pooping my pants at the thought of getting my lip pierced. It's not so much the pain I'm worried about, it's more like having a total stranger stick a needle through my lip and what might go wrong:-(
I have had 4 kids... I got my lip pierced on my 29th birthday.. The piercing itself was sore, but the swelling afterwards is even worse. I asked probably a dozen or so people and they all said it didn't hurt... Guess what? THEY LIED! I will not sit here and tell ANYONE that getting a needle pushed through your lip does not hurt, cause it DOES... Just make sure you don't let the swelling get out of control and you will be ok. Lots of ice cream and ibuprofen. Had mine a week tomorrow and it STILL SWELLS!
Outside of burger places and some young girl clothing stores any visible piercings greatly reduce your chances for better places of employment. Teachers for instance can not have visible piercings or tatoos. Even bus drivers cannot have them. I know because I am a school bus driver. We have one driver that has her children's names on her arms. She is required to cover them anytime she is driving. If she does not she will be fired. - It might be cool to have piercings but think of your future and where you might want to work. Believe me it does make a difference although they may not say so in an employment interview.
I wanted my lip pierced but mum wouldnt let me go in and get it so me and my mates pierced my lip with 2 different needles... And my mate poked the needle thru 4 times be4 he got it right... He made 4 diff holes ahha.. And then he put the studd in... And yeh it didnt hurt that much... Maybe a little bit but only for a couple of secs..
It depends if you don't numb it with either alchol or ice then it will hurt hella badd..but if you do then you wont even feel it...but ive had both my top lip and my bottom lip pierced...and to me I think that the bottom hurts more than the top....espically get the top because it more easier to clean than the bottom...
I peirced my lip myself with a pin;To my it didn't even hurt; It's just when I got th peircing through it felt abit funny but after bout 30 seconds it was okaay. I'm in year 8 (13) N I thought th pain would be unbearable cause I lose in a game of mercy al the time. But Getting you're lip peirced really dousnt hurt, Even though I did it myself and it didn't hurt id recomend you to get it done professionaly because you may do it wrong.
I had my bely buton pierced jst a month ago :) I'm 14 nd it didnt hurt one bit. I was rly scared at first nd was shaking I could barely stand nd wen I lay down I closed my eyes nd it was disgusting as da needle went trough but didnt feel anytin at al nd I kept my eyes shut but then the lady hu was piercing it said it was done nd I was like rly? ;D it hurts when I laugh sometimes :DDD
Well No its actually dosent hurt at all guys its just the pain when the needle gose throught the lip its a lil bit of a shock Like but every body takes pain in different ways some people can be lil babies lol =^.^= some people can handle it Ive had mine donee the pain of it afterwards hurt like a bitch likee Butt thats just the pain afterwards but when you get it done its totally fine guys don't worry about itt what I done waz stuck my head phones in and I listened to my music try it guys it works :)))))))))))))
I don't think I've ever had a piercing hurt while I got it. Its a weird sensation for sure, but not painful. A little ache after but in most piercings it goes away in hours or a couple of days.
Well, I personally havent gotten one done but I hear from everyone that you feel virtually nothing or a very small pinch. It also might hurt slightly for about a day. I'm thinking about getting one too, so hopefully its just as pain free as everyone says it is. (:
I'm planning on getting my lip pierced very soon but even when it comes to getting a needle at the dentist I freak out and usually grab the dentists arm, when I get my lip pierced I'm scared ill move and they will stuff it up, any help? And I'm hoping to god it doesnt hurt cause even looking at a needle scares the crap outta me
I don't know if it hurts but there is one way to find out. If you want it go for it. If it does then it does. If not then not. What don't kill you makes you stronger. I'm planning on getting mine tomorrow
Well I'm 13 and I'm getting mine done this weekend and I'm just a bit nervous for the needle part like will I be able to hear it go through my lip or will the needle pop some nerves?? And would it help if I was to hold someones hand cause I can be a bit of a baby when it comes to needles,not my favorite thing in the world
I'm getting mine hopefully done next week it's not really something to be afraid of I'm having my friend do it and if it does hurt oh well just if your getting it done non professionally ice it like hold ice where your getting the piercing till it's numb then you won't feel it at all
K. Well. I'm 18 years old. And I can kind of handle pain. And I'm planning on getting my lower right side of my lip done. And to be honest. And I don't feel manly about saying this lol ... But I'm really really nervous. Actually kind of scared of the pain. Most of the people who answered this post say I didnt hurt but felt a slight pinch or discomfort when the needle was goin through. Is their someone who can compare that pinch or pain to somthing so I can kind of get an idea of what I might feel?

I heard it doesn't hurt- a girl at my school who's in 8th grade said it didn't hurt. But I don't know all that well,I'm not planning to get my lip pierced.

Well I'm getting my lip pierced tomorrow and I'm oober scared. When I was a baby and got my second hole pierced, I ended up getting a mini keloid because I am so sensitive. Now, I have 3 holes on each ear and I had my cartiledge but it ended up getting a giant bubble when it got infected so I had to let it close. My parents are taking me tomorrow so I can get my lip pierced on the right side, but because it is on my face I'm scared of it getting infected and scarring. So any tips for me to prevent it from getting nasty? Also, how bad does it hurt? In general and compared to my cartiledge? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Oh and one last thing. .. I'm going to a sweet 16 next week so will it be better by then? No swelling, pain, marks?
Not so much. You need to have someone hold a mirror up so you can see it. That wont hurt much. But that is only for some. If you have someone talk to you then you will keep your mind off of it. Those are the two easier ways I know of.
It matters how well your body adapts to pain. Some people say that they only feel pressure when others say that it hurts pretty bad. Usually if it hurts then it will swell up and be sensitive for awhile so it all comes down to is how bad you really want one. If you just got the impulse to do it then you should wait a few months to a year to see if you really want it or if its just a stage you are going through. ALSO** When getting a piercing/tattoo you need to make sure that the artist knows what he'she is doing. Do your research because if they don't know what they are doing they can mess it up and then you will have to re-do the piercing and it can hurt a lot worse.

It really depends on the person.I got both of mine done at the same time and it hurt so bad I almost fainted, but some people say they barely felt theirs. It depends on your tolerance for pain.
