These days, there are lots of girls walking around with fake designer gear and acting as if they're some kind of celebrities!

Luckily, there are a couple of easy ways to tell who's got the goods, and who's wearing a flea-market imitation.

For all you gals out there wondering whether you're wearing Gucci or 'gootchie', here's a quick guide to how to tell the difference:

How to tell if your Gucci scarf is real
  • The first thing to check out is the quality of the material. If you wrap the scarf around your neck and it feels as if the wind's blowing right through it, the chances are the material is cheap and you're wearing an imitation. Also, over a period of time, a fake will become more obvious. Fakes tend to fray and wear a lot more quickly than the real deal.
  • The second thing to keep an eye out for is the labeling. Look at the way the logo looks and feels on the fabric. Compare it with a scarf that's in the official Gucci store. Does it feel the same and look the same? Then you could be on to a keeper! Some Gucci products also come with authentication labels, which can help you tell if your item is genuine.
  • If none of the above helps you, there's one certain way of knowing... The price! If something sounds too cheap to be real, it usually is. Gucci is an expensive brand, so don't buy any of those stories about 'returned stock' and last season's styles. There are bargains out there, but Gucci scarves will always command a certain price!

Sometimes it's hard to do!
Some of the best fakes I've ever seen were in Penn station in NY, but the colors sometimes get a little off, and the definition's not quite as good.
You have to have a very good eye.
