There are a number of things that you can do in order to grow you hair. Here is a list:
- Trim your hair around 1/2 inch every 3-4 months, this will remove any damaged ends and help hair grow longer faster.
- Abstain from using heated appliances like hair dryers etc.
- Avoid harsh chemicals like dyes.
- Adopt a diet high in proteins.
- Include B-6, biotin, Inositol and folic acid supplements
- Drink lots of water.
- Handle your hair with care when wet, Do not brush when wet.
- Massage you hair weekly with oil to stimulate growth.

In my personal experience, well-cared-for hair does not require regular general trimming, but merely search-and-destroy missions to clip individual split ends. Split ends should be trimmed with *sharp* scissors. Trimming with less-than-sharp implements will *produce* splits. Avoid excess heat. Avoid stripping natural oils from hair completely (makes it brittle). Eat a normally-healthy diet. Wet or dry, handle your hair with due care, avoiding catching it in car doors, seat belts, shoulder straps, etc. This is a regimen that works for over 1 meter in length.

One key is to make sure you get your hair trimmed every 4-6 weeks. Just trimmed to get rid of the dead ends. Another is to make sure and take care of your hair. Use conditioner daily, and if you aren't an extremely active person you can actually skip a day or two without using shampoo in your hair but still use conditioner. Of course with some people their hair doesn't grow as fast as others so just remember it takes time.

I have found using 'Maine and Tail' shampoo and conditioner for horses works and you can buy it at most stores. It has a lot of protein.

Use lime extract oil in your shampoo or conditioner.. You can buy it at most health food stores. It gave me huge results and helps make its shinier as well.

Yes trimming your hair prevents split ends but it does not help it grow faster, thats a joke... They even talked about this on the doctors, its a myth...
