Olive oil has been suggested to be an effective natural treatment for dry hair. Using olive oil before shampooing is a cheap way to condition dry or damaged hair to leave it silky and manageable. Many believe that is a good alternative to expensive salon products and is an easy way to save some money and add moisture back into your hair.
In order to use an olive oil treatment you will first need to part your hair down the centre. Next, pour approximately one tablespoon of olive oil into the palm of your hand and rub your hands together. This will ensure that you have an even spread of olive oil across your hands. If the oil is dripping off your hands then you have used too much. Let the oil drip off until your palms are just covered, almost as if you were apply sun cream. Then, apply the oil to one side of your hair at a time, starting from half way down and working your way to the ends. Avoid putting too much oil, or any, on the roots of your hair as this will make them greasy. Try to only apply the olive oil to the parts of your hair that are particularly dry. Once the oil is rubbed in, place a plastic shower cap over your hair and blow dry for ten minutes. This will help the oil work its way into your hair and makes it easier to remove. After this, shampoo your hair as normal, using conditioner if your hair is really dry or damaged. Finally, style your hair as normal.
This inexpensive olive oil treatment can be used as and when you feel you need it. Some people suggest that the oil can also be used to treat dandruff, lice and even hair loss.
