I Had My Tongue Pierced A Week Ago And Its Been Fine. Yesterday I Noticed A Lump Inside My Tongue Around The Piercing. It's Slightly Sore And I Was Just Wondering If Anybody Knew If This Was Part Of The Healing Process?

That's scar tissue from the piercing. A keloid (the lump) can appear because of irritation. Try not to play with it too much in your mouth, I know it's tricky but that's the only way to get rid of it. Keep rinsing your mouth out with a form of saline solution.

I have two tongue piercings and during the first six to eight weeks your tongue is going to be super sensitive. Take it easy with eating, brushing and rinsing. Don't use mouthwash with alcohol. Try a very gentle Peroxyl rinse (find it at almost any grocery or drug store) after eating, drinking anything but water or smoking. If it hurts to brush the balls of your tongue ring, don't. Rinse for 15-30 seconds with a solution of 1/4 tsp non-iodonized sea salt to one cup warm (not hot, not lukewarm) distilled water twice or so daily as well. This kind of a soak will promote healing, clean the piercing where you can't brush and be soothing for you.

Just keep in mind that gentleness is key. Don't overclean or gargle too roughly- you don't want to reverse the healing that has taken place.

Remember not to push it for the first month and a half or two of healing. It takes months for your tongue to feel and appear the way it's going to end up when its fully healed. Be patient and don't worry too much!

Many ancient cultures encouraged people to pierce or tattoo different parts of the body. It could have been to protect them from evil or to heighten their social standing. Today, body piercing is considered very cool and trendy by youngsters. Traditionally the ear lobes and nose were pierced to enhance the beauty but now any part of the body is open to piercing. We see all types of hoops, studs or rings sticking out of eyebrows, belly-buttons, tongues, nostrils and even lips.

Tongue piercing should be always done by a professional and not be a do-it-yourself project. There are many clinics with trained doctors who do the job or beauty parlours who also have trained pierces. Piercing should be done using sterile instruments and immediately afterwards ice can be used to bring down the swelling. Piercing guns are also very commonly used.

The mouth is likely to feel uncoordinated at first and care has to be taken not to eat spicy food or drink alcohol or hot liquid. Carefully chosen stud or ring needs to be used or it may chip or break the teeth. The tongue is particularly susceptible to infection as we are likely to swallow the germs along with food and drinks. Adequate care should be taken while brushing to avoid bleeding and allergic reaction. It takes about three to four weeks to heal.

It depends on what the lump looks like. I have a tongue ring and I have gotten a raised bump surrounding the bar. I used Glyoxide. You can find it at CVS, Walgreens, Brooks, or any store like that. It is located in the Oral hygiene area. I think it is under 10 dollars. Trust me it may taste bad.. But it works wonders. Follow the directions on the box. Good luck

I have a small raised area around my bar. On the surface of my tounge. It goes down sometimes then morin gs when I wake up its worse. My piercer wouldnt change it after one week. As I found it easy to talk and eat. They said it was still swollen. I clean it as reccomended  with a non-alcoholic mouthwash and do not fiddle with it a lot. Or touch it. So what am I doing wrong?

Is it normal to have a hard time spitting? Because I've been having an incredibly hard time spitting, I've had it done for a week now and it doesn't hurt, its not swollen or infected.

My peircer said earlier that it wasnt infected and the swelling has completely gone, she said to ask around because the healing procedure could be different in weird ways for some people

It's normal it's your body's natural defense against an odd object being put through your skin it is trying to close up the hole it will go away further into the healing process I had the same thing when I first got mine pierced

No it is not. Take the piercing out and it should get better or it could be an infection so see a doctor.

Actually taking the jewelry out of an infected piercing can trap the bacteria in and make it worse. If you think you have an infection you are supposed to consult your doctor and have them do what they think would be best
