- Why do we get pimples on our scalp?
One reason why spots occur on the scalp is simply because the scalp is oily. If you have oily skin, chances are that you will also have spots on your face, chest or back. Oily skin on the scalp is simply a continuation of the oils on other places on the body. Washing the hair frequently (once per day or once every other day) should reduce the occurrence of spots in the scalp.
Another potential cause for spots on the scalp is scalp folliculitis. This is when damaged hair follicles can become infected with bacteria or fungus, and as a result, spots appear throughout the hair. If you notice that the spots worsen in humid conditions, or after you have been sweating (after intensive exercise, for example), then you could have a case of scalp folliculitis.
- What shampoo do I use to remove spots on the scalp?
This will depend upon what has caused your spots to appear in the first place - there are many more causes for spots in the hair than the two listed above. However, as a general rule, shampoos which contain tea tree oil are usually effective in clearing up spots in the scalp, because tea tree oil naturally helps to protect against bacterial and fungal infections.
Anti-dandruff shampoos may also help, because they also contain anti-fungal ingredients.
Another key ingredient to look out for is Salicylic acid. This is often used to clear up spots all over the body, and is very effective in drying the spots up, preventing bursting and bleeding.
If the spots are incredibly sensitive, painful or concentrated, please consult your doctor.
