Well- havn't been on here in awhile. Lol... ANYWAY...
Basically the radiation from the sun burned your shoulders and either helped remove already dead skin or if you were out there for long hours actually further killed skin cells with the intense heat/radiation. It's a good and bad thing. It removes dead skin (good) and it hurts (bad) To say the least. Always wear lotion unless you are systemactic in your tanning (tan... Take a break... Tan on different spots.) I'm vacationing and got a REALLY dark tan. Nearly burned. But it is what I wanted. I had to flap on on my back and back on belly a couple of times in order to get a even result. Never tan or lay in the sun for long periods without protection. If you are tanning without lotion. I would expect a 30-60 min session of tanning in the sun would be alright (depends on skin type. If you have resistant skin. Take 60 mins. If you have weak skin. Do 30. Or even 15 min sessions depending on heat.)
