I agree you most definitely are not supposed to wash your hair the day of your prom because all of the natural oils help keep it in place, also they are going to be putting so much hair spray and other product in it, that it won't really matter.  Also if you do wash your hair, the softness makes it harder for the stylist to control and will make the process take way longer.
