I tried mixing laundry detergent w/ reg shampoo because I love the smell of the detergent. It worked fine, but I also used conditioner and left it in for 5 mins.

I do not recommend that you use laundry detergent on your hair. Much too strong.
It will strip the natural oils from your hair, open the cuticle and cause your hair to become dry, dull frizzy, unmanageable and brittle.
If you really have no way of getting any shampoo, suggest you use a little bit of dish washing liquid mixed with a lot of water to quickly wash your hair. Better yet, borrow an ounce of shampoo from your neighbor.
