My initial thought on nipple piercings is one of "No, thank you!" Having said that, there are positives and negatives of having your nipples pierced.  Here's my list.

Positives

  • If you like piercings, having your nipples pierced could be an enjoyable experience.  You'll probably love how they look after they've healed.
  • Nipple piercings tend to increase sensitivity in the surrounding area, which would be an obvious sexual benefit.
  • Nipple piercings are considered art by some people, and you'll always have something to talk about in awkward moments.  "Hey, want to see my nipples?!"

Negatives

  • Having your nipples pierced is going to be pretty painful for most people.
  • The healing time of nipple piercings can be quite long  They're certainly off limits in the bedroom for at least 6 months.
  • Keeping nipple piercings clean as they heal can be quite tricky, and it's not uncommon to get an infection following a nipple piercing.
  • You could be judged by people that aren't into piercings.  If this affects you, nipple piercings probably aren't for you.
  • They are likely to affect women negatively as they'll interfere with breast feeding.
  • If you decide you don't like your nipple piercings, you may be left with a scar for a fair few years.  Some people claim that nipple piercings make your nipples change shape.

In short, nipple piercings are great for people who are fond of piercings and want to be a little adventurous.  As with all piercings, if you're not sure you actually want them, it's probably best to not bother.

It all depends on the person. I have a good friend who has a nipple piercing. He's this macho guy who loves football, drinking and working out and yet he has this pink nipple piercing because he enjoys nipple stuff in the bedroom, and claims that the nipple piercing only magnified that sensation.

In general they're quite easy to hide, unless you walk around topless all day, although they can show through a t-shirt.

In general it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks, they're your nipples and you can do as you please with them. I think no less of my friend for having one, nor to I question his masculinity if that's something you're worried about. The only problem he seems to have is if he gets it caught on something it can quite hurt. So of course I flicked him in the nipple as much as possible, but now that I'm thinking about it, I'm not sure that hurt him so much...

In short, if somebody wants to get their nipples pierced, then go for it.
