As a fellow sufferer of Fibromyalgia, the surgery OR the lipo may cause you considerable pain. Working out doesn't have to be hard top lose weight. You have to find exercises that will be able to burn lots of calories. If you were to find an exercise that you can tolerate with your Fibro, consider doing it 5 days a week. Can you exercise at home? A stationary bicycle or tread mill may just be with you need. Remember, consistency in your exercise patterns are what really count. I deal with my Fibro by just being as active as possible. Maybe exercise will help you with that also. Good Luck

Been going to the gym 4 days a week - swimming is all I can tolerate but have lost even 1 pound. I think if the weight was off, it would ease my symptoms a bit even if it increased my pain in the short term. I have to try something. I cant stand not looking like myself.

LISTEN, Handyman! Exercise hasn't helped. No matter what exercise she does the belly won't go away. She has thyroid problems. Perhaps she's been put on Synthroid. But, as 2 endocrinologists told me, with thyroid disease & fibro, once you gain it, you have it--virtually impossible to lose. While I'd love to exercise consistently, I have severe FMS AND CFS; I'm lucky to get dressed in the AM before I need a nap & pain meds! Your FM is obviously mild. Surgery is possible, Whoknew! Talk to your MD!

we need to make clear that these methods are not weight loss surgeries.. They are utilized to remove excess fat and excess skin from specific areas! Its common these techniques to be combined. For example when someone removes much local fat the excess skin left can be removed with tummy tuck! So i am not sure these two methods need to be compared

Liposuction and tummy tucks are really used more for contouring rather than for actually losing weight. Often, the liposuction is combined with the tummy tuck. But neither procedure should be used to lose weight. It's best to lose the excess weight, then use the cosmetic surgery as a "finishing touch" to help you look better. With either procedure, there are risks and the risks increase if you have other health issues. Use caution and make sure you talk to a qualified doctor. More info is at Liposuction and Liposculpture

Lipo is no more fatal for people with fibro than anyone else. The bigger issue for fibroites is pain control which can be addressed w/ the surgeon & anesthesiologist. People w/ FMS tend to develop a "fat pad" over the belly which can make the scale go up & DOES NOT RESPOND TO WEIGHT LOSS OR EXERCISE. If you have fibro but haven't developed this, count your blessings! It can cause oozing, bloody rashes, back pain, more. I'm making careful plans for tummy tuck & breast reduc. & can't wait!

Presumably (hopefully) anyone w/ fibromyalgia is already taking their health pretty seriously. I've been doing lots of research on the implications of an abdominoplasty & breast reduction for someone with severe FMS (me!) after many years of suffering with a belly fat pad that's CAUSED by my fibro (it's listed as one of the many effects of FMS). I've been skinny all my life, not even a "baby belly" after 3 kids--until I developed FMS. It's not always from overeating and lack of exercise!
