How Can I Tell If My Bulova Watch Is Real Or Fake?

The best piece of advice one should take when looking at the legitimacy of jewellery and watches is to have the product looked at by a specialist.  Jewellers and watch repair shops would be excellent at deciphering real watches from fakes as they handle watches daily.  There are, however, some signs that may point to a fake watch.  The first sign is the price; Bulova watches are typically medium-priced, meaning you should expect to pay $100-$500 per watch, even the cheapest in the Bulova range would be just under $100 and the most expensive watch would be in the thousands in terms of dollars.  If you have paid less than this for your watch then there may be a chance that the watch is fake, or perhaps even stolen.  Every Bulova watch has the official Bulova symbol or logo somewhere on the watch, usually centred on the clock face, with most also having the company name underneath the symbol or logo.  Again if this is not the case then the watch may be a fake.  It is also important to check the weight of your watch.  Properly made, designer watches tend to be made with the best, heavier materials so if your watch is lighter than you expect it to be there is a good chance the watch may be a fake made with cheaper, lighter materials.  Real designer watches should also come with some form of paperwork, either proving authenticity or giving instruction.  If you do not have any literature with your watch then, again, it may not be authentic.  For more tips on the authenticity of your watch you could look at the website watchcomparison.com, which offers further advice on spotting fake designer watches and covers everything from 'tick' volume to water resistance.

Call 1-800-A-BULOVA, you should look on the back of the watch, there should be a long number sequence starting with a "C" followed by numbers. With this, the rep should be able to verify the authenticity of the bulova watch. I just had mines checked after I ordered it on ebay.

If they can replicate the entire watch, what makes you think they can't replicate the back from an authentic watch? They could just go to a jewellery store and copy the back numbers and put it on the fake!

Bulova watch is one of the classic watches in the market. You must be given a product ID and code with you so you can check and confirm from the website of Bulova by entering your product code and Id on their website so that you may know that it is real product or fake. Just visit the website at

According to the Bulova people, there are 2 things to look for. The first is the style number on the watch face near the numeral 6, visible with a magnifying glass, and usually 2 numbers, a letter, and 2 numbers. The second is the date it was made on the back of the watch, usually as a letter and a number. If you can find those, call 1-800-BULOVA, and they can verify it is authentic.

Any respectable jeweler/watchmaker should also be able to tell you about your watch. Bring all paperwork you have for it and the watch itself to one you trust.
