Discoloration of the skin is actually a pretty common problem with piercings.

What Causes Discoloration Of The Skin After A Piercing?
Essentially, it’s your body’s natural response to the trauma of having metal shoved through it! Discoloration is one of the risks you take when you get something pierced.

There are other things that can cause your skin to appear dark around the piercing site, though - and one of these things is metal residue.

If you’ve been wearing cheap jewelry, it's likely that the metal has reacted with a skin lotion or something. The best way to deal with this is by regularly cleansing the piercing with a saline solution (salt-water).

Another cause for skin discoloration is bruising - if you’ve had your bellly-button pierced within the past week, it might just be bruised! There’s not much you can do about this, other than wait it out.

What Are The Treatments For Discolored Skin Around A Piercing Site?
There aren’t many, unfortunately. You could try a product like Bio-Oil, which is designed to reduce the appearance of scars and stretch-marks.

It’s also important to keep the piercing clean. If it’s become infected, you might want to take the piercing out altogether - you risk making the hole even darker if you leave it in.
