How do I protect myself from people who wear expensive brands? I, as student, can not afford expensive clothing. So, I feel worthless.

I grew up without name brands. It isn't really about that. If you get clothes that fit and look good on you no one will notice that you don't have name brands. I had a friend who was voted best dressed in high school and most of her clothes came from Kmart. If you really want to add a feew name brand pieces look in consignment shops or thrift stores.

Vanity is not a virtue, my friend. A measure of one's character is making do with what he or she has. As a student, perhaps you should be more concerned with bettering yourself for future successes, not fussing over meaningless trifles like clothing labels. Years from now, those labels will mean nothing, but the education you should be focused on now will be carrying you forward.

So what, those other people spend too much on clothing, does that make them better than you? If you think it does, some counseling might be a wise move for you.

I know it is vanity. But the thing is that my country is poor and people try to compensate this fact by wearing branded clothing.
It seems it works. People do feel better with expensive stuff, somehow they act differently.

Empty pride will carry one only so far. If it makes them feel better, giud for them, give more heed to your own priorities, don't worry about impressing other shallow people.

Thank you for your comment.
Well, I'm not trying to impress them. I am only protecting myself. Trying to build my own character. The look is of great importance. I do not wanna lose myself in the crowd.

You can buy cheap clothes at Walmart, and mall quality clothes at discount stores. I wear $10 shoes that look like converses... FROM THE FAMILY DOLLAR!
