It's not going to kill you but depending on how many uv rays are hitting you, you can get skin cancer and sun poisoning. I know a few people who have gotten skin cancer and its leaves little scars that are all that noticeable but at the time it did hurt. I got sun poisoning from tanning a few years ago and it was horrible. it looked like someone poured a vat of acid on my skin and then when healing my skin turned purple. I'm not sure how long until it's bad for you but if you have sensitive skin (irish skin) I wouldn't stay out for very long but if you have darker skin (normally tan instead of burning) then you should be fine as long as you do it in moderation (not 7 hours every day). it really just depends on your skin but normally you can tell when something bad is happening to you skin before it gets to bad, so if anything not normal happens you might want to stop.
I was told to avoid the morning rays. But to limit yourself no more then 20 to 30 mins a day. This would mean to lay on back for 10 to 15 mins and then flip over to tan the front. If you tan in a tanning bed then you should lay no longer than 15 mins in the beds. The best thing to remember is not to over due any tanning no matter if you are tanning in tanning beds or even out side. The sun does give you vitamin D.
My brother in law had half of his nose removed because of the worst form of skin cancer, malignant melanoma . It can spread thru the body very quickly and become fatal quickly. My brother-in-law and his wife have always been sun worshippers. His wife seems to be headed in the same direction with the cancer.
It most assuredly can kill you.
