Most of these answers are ridiculous. I personally have a small star tattoo on my arm and in no way am I a satanist, a gang member or anything along those lines, I am 25 and a christian with a decent background and a bright future. When I was younger, I had a very bad temper and I would go outside and look at the stars to calm me. To me, my tattoo represents staying calm and that everything will wind up ok...
To the last person you just contradicted yourself at the end of that paragraph lol. Either your daughter is gay or bi, is a gang member, or just wants a tattoo she thinks is cute. And if it is the first two she may withhold the truth.
When it comes to the gang thing the five pointed star does not mean one gang in particular. If a gang uses a five star, that means they are aligned with "people nation" which means somewhat of an alignment to all the other gangs that use the 5 point to represent themselves. 6 pointed star means an alignment to the "folk nation". But given the facts about your particular situation I'd say your daughter is a Satanist. Being a Satanist is not like what the television and the media would lead you to believe. They don't worship an evil god of the underworld; well most of them don't anyway. Most Satanists only believe that they are god. So absolutely nothing to worry about if that were in fact the case so rest easy and don't lose any sleep over it.”
A star tattooed on the wrist in many places is to show how much jail time a person has done. 5 stars tattooed around the elbow in a circle means that you're a transexual in Brasil and some other Latin American countries and also in parts of USA. This I the reality of it all, not the symbolism of 'the star represents the relationship between the human body and nature, my love of curtains ...' is nonsense, a star is a star, end of.
I see loads of kids with stars, they get them because they're one of the simplest tattoos and it's in fashion. She might end up getting more complex tattoos when shes older, the only thing to then worry about is that she doesn't go crazy and become covered in them and go to a reputable tattoo parlour. Also if she plans to get a chinese symbol tattoo make sure to find out that it does mean 'spirit, love etc' not 'rear exit' or 'chicken fried rice'.
There's many reasons for a 5 point star.. A lot of females get them cause they think its a cute tattoo I know many people who have a star on them but have no significant reason for it.. Also it could be gang related but since she is a college student and if she is a good student I doubt she is mixing herself with gangs.. I wouldnt really worry about it she probably just thought it was a cute tat.. Or symbolizing herself as a gay citizen.
Five Point Star, also known as a pentacle or pentagram, is commonly depicted with a circle enclosing the star and is a popular symbol among pagans and wiccans. The five points typically represent earth, wind, fire, water, and our spirit, which takes its proper place above the four elements. The pentacle (the five-point star drawn as overlapping outlines) is considered a potent sigil of protection and balance and is worn as an adornment by pagans just as the crucifix is worn by Christians. There is also something called a “pentagrammaton” (a Greek word that means “five-lettered name”, which refers to Yeheshuah, the Hebrew name of Jesus) that has many representations, one of which is a pentagram that incorporates a yin-yang symbol to emphasize its harmonizing nature.
People who are attracted to a five point star tattoo are usually very versatile, adventurous, progressive, and always striving to find answers to the many questions that life poses. Since the five point star is the sign of freedom and independence (just take a look at the American flag), these people want to be totally unrestrained, and know how to motivate people around them. Five point star tattoo design people also love adventure, are apt to be multi-talented and happy-go-lucky, and have an innate ability to think through complex matters and analyze them quickly. Lmao indeed I agree with the last remark of stupid smart people and may I add it's in human nature to give the simplest answer e.g. God created the univers and ask them how they'll answer he's powerfull and can do anything lmfao same goes for a 5pts star then your in a gang.
Althought my answer its the origin of it but nowaday thank you fu...ing internet with facebook and all of those crazy meet people site wich allows to add not just friends but a pack loads of strangers(just on facebook a girl has an average of 100+friends) a lot of girls thinks they are little star and some of them just tattooed themselve with it.
Ultimatly for you my friend if you want to have the real answer just ask her not us we don't know any of her background stories.
A 5 point nautical star means good luck at sea, hence the "nautical" part! And the crips gang were originally started as an anti violence, anti drug neighborhood watch, who the bloods copied so stop making stuff up people. Also a star is an easy way to fill space with a tattoo especially in difficult to tattoo areas like the elbow. Don't read into it too much and just talk to your child, if she has the trust and love enough to tell you she's gay I'm sure asking her about her choice of tattoo will not offend.
Everyone now days has stars.start became so common on everyone one that people just get stars with out meanings. I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with gangs.or her being gay. Because I have stars in my back and I got them because I'm obsessed with stars and I'm bi and I'm 19
Sirius... Which has been adorned by the occult and secret societies since the beginning of time. Many ancient artifacts as well as writings reveal that our origins stem from Sirius. The Book of Enoch1 which was banned by the church discusses the Watchers. The Qur'an states that Allah is the Lord Sirius. The Dallas Cowboys use it and for a good reason. Dallas being located on the 33rd parallel. Street gangs use the 5pt star not understanding that the origins of their groups were created by the hierarchy of these mystery religions. Albert Pike and the tetragrammaton are worth looking into as well....
I have a red star on my face but I'm no gang member...it represents my love for the world....earth...wind...water...and fire....it represents freedom and the universe....the color red means blood I have lost and the blood lost of loved ones......
I have a five point star tattoo. I am a teacher and one my inter-city students asked me about it. The star I have represents sisterhood (it's a sister tat) and is made up of eight notes so it represents my love of music. You should ask your daughter about it. She may harbor a very interesting story. (the student thought it was gang related. Ha! I'm a white/music minister/teacher!)

The five point star is called a pentagram. Here's more information on pentagrams. There seems to be lots of meanings behind this symbol, but the one that I think comes to mind for most people is satanism, but I am not sure if it actually does. There were lots of bands in the 80's that wanted to portray a satanic image so they used the pentagram for some of their art work.
My g odchild told me she had to fight within a circle, but she say she is not in a gang...she does have a 5 point star on her hip bone..should I dig deeper?
A 5 Point Star has a wide range of associations. If the collinear edges are joined together a pentagram is produced which is considered a symbol of mystical and magical significance. It has been associated with Venus and the worship of the Goddess Venus. So it is a possibility that your daughter has such inclinations. It also has associations with Freemasons. So you would have to check it out with your daughter.
