There are a number of books available which offer tips on how to make designs with lanyard and rexlace. Lanyard also spelled as lanyard, basically is a rope or cord generally worn around the neck or wrist to carry things.
Dragoons often used lanyards to secure their sabers to the wrist, and hence permitting the firing of carbine and pistol with the saber out. Pistol lanyards are mainly created so that they connect a pistol grip to a uniform on temporary basis. A well designed lanyard can be quickly removed and reattached by the user, but will usually stay joined to the pistol whether it is drawn out or kept in the holster. Lanyards of different colour combinations and braid designs are generally worn on the shoulder of British and Commonwealth military uniforms.

What is rexlace? I've never used it before. I know of girl that uses beaded lanyards with wire or some kind of twine-like fishing twine. Do you think you could use leather?
