The opposite of a man's i.e the buttons will be on the left when you are wearing the shirt. It is because women learnt to do up their husbands shirt before women started wearing shirts so they put it to other way around to make it easier and the tradition has stuck
Traditionally, women's buttonholes are on the right side of their clothing, while men's buttonholes are on the left side. The most generally accepted reason for this difference dates back to the days when women of leisure were dressed by their servants. The buttonhole placement was designed for the servants' ease.
