I guess it is confusing as the bible condradicts itself saying you shouldnt harm your body in any way yet then saying that the old testimenant is fullfilled follow new testimant. Which i believe has no reference to tatoos or body peircings.

As far as i'm concerned the bible has no reference to tatoos and peircings and its opinion on them because when the bible was written so long ago they didn't get tatoos etc. Its hard to relate something written back then to modern day. The way of life back then is very different to now.

You should follow the bible if yor christian but i wouldn't read it word to word. You should apply it to modern day living. Tatoos and body peircings isnt harming your body. When the bible means don't harm your body it means don't chop your arm off.

The bible says that your body is your temple and that it should be treated as one. What do you think....Would you deface a temple?

It just blows me away why people spend so much money on this body art to make themselves what they think is cool, and yet they wonder why they aren't able to put gas in their cars to go to work, be debt free & live full. They are decieved by satan, he uses their minds & flesh to make them think they are better off to conquer them. They are dieing in their finances, relationships, and health because they are vain! Like look at me! I am it! This peircing or tatto makes me fit in! Lie from hell!

The old testament forbids it but in the new testament it says old testament law has been fulfilled and doesn't need to be followed but in other areas it says it still needs to be followed so I guess it's up to each individuals judgment.

It's in the old testament that you shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead nor print any marks upon you I am the LORD , cause you been bought with a price you are not your own . It is the temple of the LORD.

First off, the reason that the Bible says not to mark oneself is because at the time that was written, scarification and what would now be considered "tattoos" were done by opposing religions at worshiped idols and other deities. However, in the modern sense of tattoos and living in the society that we live in now, in the modern day, there is nothing against tattoos if you are a Christian or other religion (although it still says not to mark oneself in the Torah, so for Jewish people it might be different).

Also, whether or not getting tattoos and piercings is "defacing" your temple is really a matter of opinion. Technically, we should all be vegan or eat only naturally grown foods, because otherwise we are putting hormonally and genetically changed products into our bodies, or consuming pesticides. Unfortunately, most Christians (specifically) just pick and choose what they want to apply Biblical laws to. So, it's okay to eat a piece of meat from a genetically modified / hormone-induced chicken, but it's not okay to adorn one's flesh with a small piece of metal because it's "not caring for God's temple."

I mean, really, if someone gets a Bible verse tattooed on their arm or something to remind them of a special passage, do you really think God will judge them and send them to Hell for it? That seems ridiculous. Look at the intentions behind what God commands rather than the literal word. Also looks at the verse and determine if it is something that God commanded someone to write down for Him to share with the people, or whether or not it was said by a disciple of Christ, or another Biblical figure.

In response to Driven: I doubt that the majority of people who are getting tattoos done are doing it at the cost of their marriages, jobs, and livelihood. That's just absurd.

11 months ago, on this, Wiltermood said (quote) 'The bible says absolutely nothing about tattoos and piercings ...'
In Leveticus, the Bible said (quote) 'do not make any cutting in your flesh...or make prints on your body' other Bible versions say get tattoos on your body instead of prints on your body.

I personally believe that a piercing once on both ears is okay. Two maybe also but countless amounts are just crazy. Studs on your nose make it look like you have a whitehead or something. Tongue piercings, eyebrows...are just gross and they are quite dangerous to the person who has them.

I wanted a little tattoo of a fairy at the bottom part of my back but after reading that place in Leveticus, I changed my mind. I was like, 'I can live without a tattoo. I've been living without one for years.' Tattoos are like, body art. Yeah! It's creative and all but it's defacing the temple which is your body and the bible forbids it.

I am sure you were very wise to refrain. Cutting oneself to try and get one's god to take notice was common amongst pagan priests at the time, as in the story of Elijah on Mount Carmel, where the priests of Baal did exactly that.

Quite possibly pagan priests also had tattoos, so it could be argued that condemning this behaviour was to stop people adopting pagan customs. As it is simply "body art" as you say nowadays, it could be argued that the reason for the original command no longer applies.

However, there is some evidence that the ink used in tattoos can have a damaging effect on health, long term, so the scriptural injunction not to harm one's body in any way should apply.

There is nothing against tattooing or piercing. In fact, bondservants were pierced in their ears. Tattoos and piercings/scarification for the dead is what is prohibited. No, "RIP Mom", but anything that means something to you for someone that's not dead, why not?
