There are about 100,000 hair follicles on the human head. The hair grown on the human head is suppose to be longest among all mammals, and generally is thicker than hair found on the remaining parts of the body.

In ancient Egypt the head was completely shaved, primarily in small children, as long hair was thought to be very uncomfortable in heat.
