People like their names. When you use their name you're acknowledging them as a person. If you haven't taken the trouble to learn them it might be time well spent; otherwise, perhaps you could leave somebody else to do the introductions.

Have each families gather in a group and called the family name.
Have each family make a huge name poster and go around the room and someone from each family will say their family name. I know some family members will not have the same last name. But...
