I had this issue when I first got my hair dyed. All you have to do is take condition out of the shower, wet down your hair and rub conditioner in the area. Keep rinsing and applying more and brushing it. Hope this helps! Just be prepared to use A LOT of conditioner.

Detangler works the best, conditioner may work, but try some olive oil, put some in your hair....don't be shy with it.....and gently comb a little bit at a time.

Cornstartch and a wide tooth comb. Its great for pets with mats, may work for you.

Slowly and gently work at the knot from the bottom of your dry hair ( not the scalp) applying and reapplying cornstarch as you go..... Be sure to shower afterwards and use a good hair conditioner.

You can get a good leave in conditioner to put in when you get out of the shower! Even after you get the knot out, I'd still suggest using a leave in conditioner to make sure that your hair is always less tangled.  The one I use is IntraKera.  Shower and try to comb it right now, and if that doesn't work make a hair appointment.  The stylist can either comb it out, (if they can't, no one can.) or cut it out.

The reason I say try to get it out today is because if you can't get it and need to get it cut, you can't make an appointment without very much time in advance.  Good luck!

Thanks for all your answers... I smothered my hair and picked at it with a rat tail comb then I put a mixture of coconut oil, water, and a little bit of conditioner in a spray bottle and sprayed my hair then picked at some more... Thanks for all your help my big knots are almost out and my depression is going away. God Bless You.

I'm not sure how long your hair is, but when I was little, my mother used to braid our hair before we went to bed. Imagine getting four little girls to sit still to brush their hair before school! Yikes!

Olive oil and wide tooth comb, or fingers then a wide tooth comb,  start from the ends, gradually dividing the knot. Avoid pulling the comb downwards from the roots as this will tighten knots.

When tangle free, shampoo as usual.

As a man with a life-long preference short hair for myself, I've never had to deal with this problem.

Howeveer, I did google the phrase  untangling knotted hair  and got a number of hits.  Perhaps you can try that.
