You should always have your hair relaxed and then colored, with a few weeks in between the two services.  Many hair relaxers contain formaldehyde and this causes cancer.  You may want to consider using a relaxer that does not have formaldehyde.    Depending on the condition of your hair, it may be okay to relax it once a year.
