There are about 100,000 hair follicles on the human head. The hair grown on the human head is suppose to be longest among all mammals, and generally is thicker than hair found on the remaining parts of the body.

Anthropologist contemplate that the practical significance of long head hair maybe adornment. The human head hair has been an important feature of nearly all present and historical societies. In ancient Egypt the head was completely shaved, primarily in small children, as long hair was thought to be very uncomfortable in heat. A large number of people also kept their heads permanently shaved to free their head from lice and to avoid heat, and preferred to wear wigs in public.

Present-day public and educational conditions have influenced popular hair styles on regular basis.
