I'm 13 and ive had my lip pierced for about 37 days now, it didnt bleed, didnt get swollen, and didnt hut at all, I guess I was lucky, mine has already healed and I can take it out, it should take about 4-6 weeks to heal. You can tell when its healed when you se white rings of skin around the piercing I'm not sure what it is called but a know its the healed/harder skin that stops the pierce to close. Also don't play with the piercing because it can prolong the healing process ! :) good luck x

I got snake bites almost 3 weeks ago & they're healing great so far... I only use mouth wash, for the inside of my mouth & I use bactine & triple antibiotic ointment for the outside... The bactine takes some pain away, if you're having any... Also make sure you wash your hands if you're going to touch them at all... NEVER touch them with dirty hands... & if you look on the inside of your lip around the piercing you'll possibly see some white puss, that's normal, too... I changed my piercings out the first week I got them but I couldn't seem to get the ball on the hoop so I had to go to 16 gauge instead of the original 14 that I had when I got them pierced... I now use the rings that look like crescent moons... They're easier to put in & look a lot better... I can't use studs because the lady who pierced mine made them uneven so when I have studs in it's very noticeable... With the rings in you really can't tell they're uneven at all... Hope this helped a little... :)

Okay..after like 3 years of "thinking" about it I finally decided to get my lower lip pierced (on the right side)..I was TERRIFIED! I literally couldn't eat all day because I was sooo nervous..well..the piercing didn't hurt AT ALL! I would say the 3rd and 4th days after piercing were the worst with soreness and stinging when I rinsed with a 50/50 solution of Listerine (yellow) and water and outside cleanings with Dial (gold) hand soap..per my piercer's instructions. It has been 8 days now and NO pain, NO swelling (I never had any because when I went to bed at night I used and ice pack..GREAT IDEA and Ibuprofin..both deter swelling) I have very very happy with my piercing, follow the cleaning advice and use ice and ibuprofin and your piercing will be just fine :)

The pus is not an infection it is normal and so is swelling. The pus is just your bodys reaction to help heal the open wound in your face. Lol and peroxide should not be used anymore. They did tests and found that peroxide actually can dry out the piercing and cause it to heal wrong. Just ask your piercer they'll know. And also if your piercing feels like it is pulling into your lip you can go to your piercer and have them replace it with a longer stud. Or just be careful and wait it out... The swelling will go down. Mine took about 2 weeks.

Rinse with mouthwash everytime you eat, drink or smoke, clean the outside with dial antibacterial soap 3 -4 times daily and you should be fine. Playing with it every so often is fine, just not constantly it helps to keep it from crusting up. Btw if anyone thinks that it hurt, they are crazy. It hurt worse to put the ring in my lip then it did to pierce it. Lol

I've had three lip piercings in my life. I've pierced the right side myself, but took it out. No infection or anything. Then I got two side on my left. (Spider bites) My first one thats closets to my cheek didn't hurt at all, didn't bleed, didn't swell, didnt take long to heal whatsoever. The one beside it closest to the left bled a lot, it swelled a lot the ball ripped off and blood was pouring down my chin. It hurt very much for the next few days, and was hard to open my mouth. It stopped after two weeks or so and it's pretty much heal. It probably takes about 4-6 weeks for it to heal, BUT you're supposed to clean them alcohol or salt water. With alcohol it tears the tissue of your lip, don't use certain mouth wash or anything, this doesn't help. If it was okay to use salt water you could say ocean water would heal it, which is wrong. It wont. Use soap and water when you're washing your face and dab under and round it with a Q-tip. When you brush your teeth it will clean the inside of the lip piercing.

I have had my lip pierced for over a year and honestly I changed the bar after 2 weeks but thats only because it was hurting anymore, just make sure you get the right size gauge I actually went from a 14 to a 16 and it hurt for one day and then that was it, also from time to time it will get kind of sore and do not take it out!!! I took mine out to try and hide it from my grandparents once, and it was only out for 4 hours and I pretty much had to re pierce it, and it hurt like a SOB lol and that was after it was fully healed after 8 months of having it, needless to say my grandparents know about it now lol

I went to American Tattoo in Verona on Saturday and got my lip pierced. The lady who did it told me it would be about two weeks. But it would take longer if you didn't clean it three times a day and avoid touching it. Oh! And you're not supposed to have alcohol or use neosporin either.

You should quit smoking for a month or two and your lip won't be getting sore.
Try using sea salt water and rinse your mouth everytime you eat or whatever with listerine
Hope it helps!(:

Got my lip pierced today, it was swollen & I bled like a mothertrucker. My piercer told me not to use mouthwash or clean it with anything other than soap & water. He also said to wait at least 3 weeks to change the stud.

This man knows what he's talking about my friend has gotten her lip pierced twice by him & her tongue & belly button. She's never had a problem.

I got my lip pierced 3 weeks ago, mine didn't swell or hurt. And if you clean it after everything you eat and drink (except water) then it should heal faster, and you should clean the outside of it with mouthwash. Mine was hurting for like two days. I'm thinking about changing it to a ring soon.

I rinse it about 4 times a day with my homemade luke-warm sea salt solution. (1 cup warm water+1 tsp. Sea salt). Good luck!

So, I've had my snakebites in for about 2 weeks now. I use non-alcoholic mouthwash to clean the inside of my mouth with just normally brushing my teeth twice a day, and rinsing with mouthwash.

I use saline solution and Q-tips to clean the outside, and I then pushed out the snake bites as much as I could and put a little bit of antibiotics on the bar, (people say to not use things, as neosporin, but I'm using it, and I haven't had problems, please reply to me and tell me WHY I shouldn't, if there is even a reason)

Anyways, I have 14g studs in and I wanna use my 12g studs, when do you think it will be safe to change to the thicker bar?

I would suggest moving it around, yes it might prolong the healing process but if you don't have that surgical steel, your hole can fuse to the piercing you're using.

Well I got my lip pierced almost 3 weeks ago (snake bites). I did great! No fear for me! Got hoops for them from the piercer all was good. Then my lip swelled really bad. Went back to the piercer and she hooked me up with bigger hoops till the swelling went down. Last week I gotten a killer tooth ache and had to go to the dentist. I think they were more concerned with my piercings than my cavity. Here to find out that the reason why they was not healing was because of the jewelry. The hoop was more of a bendable thing that I was allergic to. Hoping to get my lip re done at a better tattoo parlor.

Alternate sea salt and water with half mouthwash and half water after every meal.  I also wash the ring off with soap and water morning and night.  Some other tips that haven't been mentioned include getting lots of Vitamin C and eating fish (I think the omega 3 is good for healing, but vitamins are for sure).  You could even start taking vitamins ahead of time, if you want to speed up your bodies healing processes.  I have also heard that exercise can boost your immune system (not sure about this because too much blood pumping seems like it could be bad).

My first one was completely healed (enough to change the barbell, not leave it out for more than a couple mins) in two weeks.  It has been two weeks and a day for my second one and it is looking like it will be closer to three weeks.  Both of mine swelled for a day and did have about a day of goup (not puss) when I put sea salt on the ring and slid it though.  The first one hurt about a day after, the second one not at all.  The first one did not hurt at all.  It was better than the finger prick before giving blood.  The second one went back through that scar tissue and it hurt more than I expected, but only for a second or two.

I agree with all of these, I guess it kinda varies :) My piercing took around 4 weeks (a month) to heal when I was in the summer hols' in 7th grade. My friend got it done with me too and she took like the whole 6 weeks to heal. Having said all this, it shouldn't heal FULLY until around 6-8 weeks or a few months or something, but you can change it when you feel ready tho :)

I'm 16 and I have had my one snakebite done for about 3 days now and it hurts really bad. Clint my piercer said it will take 4-6 weeks to fully heal and in 8-10 days I can switch out the ring. I got it done thinking it would be cute and it wouldn't hurt that bad. Boy was I wrong. I clean it every time I eat or drink something and I don't think it's getting any better. Since I got it done I have not smoked or drank and it hurts really bad.

I've had my lip pierced 3 or 4 times, I honestly can't remember at the moment. Each time it was clean and stuff, but I had other reasoning for me to take it out. Anyway, it normally takes 4-6 weeks for it too heal. Just keep it clean and you shouldn't have a problem. I normally just rinse with room temp. Salt water after I eat or drink something, I also do that before bed and when I first wake up. Good luck, and enjoii ♥

On an average around 5 weeks. And 6 weeks at most.
If you want to heal it fast, just keep it clean. Rinse it with one cup of salt water added with 1 cup of fresh water. Also apply some cold things like icecubes. Don't take any medication. It will heal automatically. Sooner or later. Listen to your peircer. Do you have hydrogen peroxide solution 3%. Apply this with the use of cotton. If you do all these things daily. It should heal in 3 weeks unless you have some problem with your immune system.

Hey I got the left side of my lip pierced may 2009 healed within 3 days don't ask how I have no idea! What I do find weird is I got the right side of my lip pierced on the 24 December 2009. It is 2 months 2morrow and its still swollen. BUT! I do have a theory. The left one my m8 did with a needle, it was fine. The right she did as well, but it kept closing, so I got it done professionally it is still swollen but it is almost healed. My school has new rules. NO FACIAL PIERCINGS! Sucks rite. So I argued about it and won. We can wear retainers. Only thing is the right piercing wont allow anything wider than 1mm. I put a retainer in the left, I have very sharp teeth and I should of thought of this. I bit the retainer in half. Any problems contact your nearest piercer and ask about it. I AM JESUS!1

Ive had my lip pierced for 9 weeks and it still isn't fully healed.

It hurts a lot when you accidentally move the ring to the opposite side than it is leaning on. It still weeps just as much as when it was first pierced and it also hurts a lot when it moves with the goop stuck to the ring. It is totally worth it, and I love it to death, but I doubt I would go through it again.

Good luck =)

It takes an average of 30-90 days to heal. You should NOT clean it with anything, or touch it. Your body has natural antibodies that will take care of any infection. Drink bottled water after every meal. Avoid drinking, smoking, and drugs because they WILL negatively affect the healing process. Swelling commonly occurs within the first 2 weeks of piercing, to avoid discomfort use a cold compress, and take an anti-inflammatory (such as ibuprofen).

My piercer told me 2 weeks, but it can be longer depending on how you take care of it (don't play with it!) and your own body. By the way everybody describing puss....it's infected.
